Anna Banana

On Saturday Steve and I went to a bbq at my Aunt Anita's house. We went to visit with family, swim in the pool, eat great food and most importantly--meet the man that has swept my cousin Anna off her feet, her Floridian boyfriend Robert. My cousin has fallen in love and is moving to Orlando to be closer to her bf (sounds a little familiar).
To keep ourselves from melting in the 106 degree heat, we lounged in the pool most of the day and got to know Robert a little bit better. The lovebirds.

Robert and Steve in the pool, probably talking about Orlando Magic.

Anna and I.

Robert has found a great woman and I know he will treat her with the respect and love she deserves. I wish you two the best in the next stage of your lives. Anna we will miss you!

Tool Time

We spent part of the 4th of July weekend in Yucaipa helping my family fix up their rental property. There was a lot of work to do and everyone chose a project to complete. I helped with painting the bedrooms and fireplace. I know fun stuff, but let me tell you painting is hard work. Steve helped with the hard to reach spots, his height definitely came in handy. He also helped with removing carpet, base boards and prepping to lay tile. My Dad and David love working on house projects. I think it's a father-son bonding thing. They showed Steve how to work some man tools and now he is ready to paint our place. The house isn't finished yet, it's a work in progress. Here are some of the before pictures.

The living room after the wallpaper was stripped and before the paint.

The hall bath. My Uncle John and Dad positioning tile. Too busy and focused to smile for the camera.

The kitchen before. They are going to rearrange some of the cupboards and paint them all white.
My mom hard at work and asking "This picture isn't going to go on your blog, is it?" Of course not.
Steve working on the hallway.
Uncle John and Dad checking out something.

David prepping the mortar, I think that's what it's called.

The tile going in the kitchen, hallway and entry way.

At this point my work was done.

He was done too. That's his I'm ready for dinner face.

Anyone looking to rent a house in Yucaipa? I will post pictures when everything is complete.

Bass Lake

Last week we went to Bass Lake for our 1 year anniversary. Jenn's uncle Randall has a cabin there and he offered up his place for us to stay for a week. Neither one of us had ever been there so we didn't know what to expect so we loaded up the car and headed out for a new adventure. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at how large and secluded the cabin was. It was very close to the lake, hidden in between tall pine trees.
The first day we settled in and drove around the lake to explore the area a little bit. The lake itself is not very wide but it is extremely long. Jenn's uncle has a foosball table so we decided to play each other. Little did I know Jenn is (a lot) better than me and beat me six games in a row. She kept asking me if I was trying and I couldn't do anything but hang my head in shame. Needless to say, we never revisited the foosball table the rest of the week.
The next day we headed down the road to a trail that winds along one of the rivers that feeds into the lake. It was early in the morning and it was nice because it was quiet and peaceful. Later that afternoon we headed down to one of the beaches on the lake and had lunch, laid out and went swimming. The water was nice and cool and we caught some good sun rays. Later that evening we went back to the cabin and had dinner, watched some movies and just relaxed.
On Friday, Jenn's uncle Randall came in to see us. He rented a boat for the day (his boat was being worked on) and took us out on the lake. We spent most of the day cruising around in the boat and swimming. It was awesome being out in the water and I convinced myself that I could be a professional boat racer or whatever those guys are called that race boats really fast. Later that night, Randall took us out to a nice dinner at Ducey's on the Lake. The food was great and we had an awesome view of the sunset and the marina.
Saturday morning we went out to breakfast a this place called The Forks. Then we packed up the car and headed back home (reluctantly). We had a great time, mostly just relaxing, listening to music on the deck, taking naps, sleeping in and walking along the lake. We enjoyed the beautiful sites of the lake, mountains, pine trees, waterfalls, birds and all of the nature surrounding the area.
Next time we are going to spend a day in Yosemite National Park which is only about another 1/2 hour drive north. I think I will rent some fishing gear and try my luck with that. There are a few golf courses up there as well so I definitely will bring my sticks with me next time. It was a great 1 year anniversary for us. Jenn and I are looking forward to many more memorable experiences in the future.
The Dowler Cabin
This is where we spent most mornings eating breakfast.
Jenn's uncle is an architect. He designed, renovated and furnished the place.
This is where Jenn kicked my butt, not once but SIX times.
The kitchen rocked, literally look at all the river rock. I cooked some great dishes here.
This is the river we hiked along.
Me up in the sticks.
Jenn told me to stand on the stump and flex my guns. Welcome to the Gun Show!
Angel Falls
It doesn't look like it, but we were pretty close to the edge of this fall.
One of the rocky beaches.
There were ducks everywhere. I kept feeding them chips and crackers.
On our private beach.
It was about 90 degrees and the water was about 70 degrees, it felt great.
It was almost as if we were the only ones out there.
Breakfast at The Forks.
Jenn on the boat.
Me taking a swim.

Who would want to leave this?
