California Coast

Last weekend we drove up to Northern California for Kelly's graduation. We started very early Friday morning and stopped in San Luis Obispo for breakfast at Louisa's Place.I love SLO. Then we drove through Morro Bay, passing the BIG rock.

We had to stop in Cayucos. Steve had never been and I had to show him where my best friend, Eileen grew up (and where we spent many weekends studying for finals on the beach).

Eileen's Dad built this windmill, north of Cayucos.

After we drove through Cambria.
This used to be a school but is now an art gallery. I thought it was cute. Then we drove through San Simeon, past Hearst Castle and stopped to see elephant seals.

It was VERY windy.

The drive from San Simeon to Big Sur was absolutely breathtaking.
On one side of the highway the hills were green and endless...

and on the other side of the highway,
there were rugged cliffs and various shades of blue ocean.

Steve was getting a little too close to the edge, it made me nervous. The other side of the cliff was a very steep, rocky drop. Men.

The drive up to Big Sur is on Highway 1, a two lane road with hills, bridges and vista points. We stopped at several to take pictures. It was so peaceful, no smog, traffic, radio stations or cell phone service. We rode with the windows down the entire time.

My friend recommended Nepenthe for lunch. The place did not disappoint. The views from the cliffside restaurant were amazing and the food was great too.

After Big Sur we drove through Carmel, Monterey and then arrived at my parents house in Gilroy. Great road trip!

Bahar's Baby Shower

Bahar, my friend and roommate from college, had her baby shower Memorial Day weekend. She and hubby Nathan are expecting their first baby in August, a baby BOY!She is a tiny pregnant person.

I lead the games at the shower.
Note the seriousness--half the girls are doctors.

Nathan's mom with all her "Baby" diaper pins.
Up until Eileen, my other college roommate, took them all.
Bahar's aunt, Azar, cooks the most delicious Persian food. During college we would drive down to Del Mar for a home cooked meal and return with a ton of leftovers for the week.
She always spoiled us!Sock Monkey cupcakes of course!

Baby Oliver received a LOT of gifts.
Eileen painted a Sock Monkey painting for Oliver's nursery.
The girls and soon to be "aunties".

Beach Reading

It has been raining in Southern CA quite a bit.
As soon as the skies cleared and the sun appeared, Steve and I headed for the coast. We spent an early weekend morning reading on the beach in Corona del Mar (I know, I know, more beach pictures).

Steve is currently reading "The Book of Basketball" by Bill Simmons. Shocker.

I am reading "The Secret".
